Gothic Series 2: Sex&Death V1.0

GENERAL INFORMATION

This theme is part of a series of themes based on Neo-Paganism and is designed to work with Microsoft Plus! and compatible programs, on PCs with WINDOWS 95 and WINDOWS 98 (though it should still work on Windows 2000 and Me with a lot of adapting).

It seemed to me that the perennial Gothic themes are SEX and DEATH. The images in tyhis theme focus on both these. In particular, the painting by Dante Gabriel Rossetti used his wife as a model. She was in the process of slowly dying at the time. I shows.

All themes were designed using Desktop Architect, available from http://www.desktoparchitect.com/. You will need either Desktop Architect, Plus! or equivalent program in order to use this theme. Two versions of the theme definition file are supplied for each theme -- one for use with Desktop Architect (which configures extra icons and sets web images), and another for use with Plus! and other programs (which use different codes for logo settings).

THEME COMPONENTS

Each "GOTHIC SERIES" theme uses a common set of sounds, and icons. The wallpaper, fonts, logos, and appearance settings may be different for each individual theme. A complete list of files in this archive is listed in g2Sex&Death.txt. You may distribute this archive freely, so long as no component files are removed or added, and this message remains intact. If any of the files in this theme appear to be missing, you can contact the author via gallae@octapod.org.

INSTALLING THE THEME

All the above files should be extracted to the \Gothick2 directory underneath your theme directory. For example, if your theme directory is \Program Files\Plus!\Themes then the files should be extracted to \ProgramFiles\Plus!\Themes\Gothick2. In addition to the above, you should also extract the g2Sex&Death.Theme and g2Sex&Death (Plus).Theme files to your theme directory (which would be \Program Files\Plus!\Themes in the above example). These two files hold the theme definition, the first for use with Desktop Architect, and the second for use with Plus! and other programs.

Normally extracting the files should not be a problem. This zip file was created using WinZip and folder information was saved for each file. If you are using WINZIP 8 or later then to extract the theme, select Install and choose which version you wish to install -- Winzip will then extract the files to the appropriate directories.

If you are using an earlier version of Winzip, select Extract (without selecting any files) and then target your theme directory, making sure that the "Use folder names" option is ticked. If you are using some other program, you may have to extract the files manually to the correct directory. Don't worry if you overwrite any files in an existing \Gothick2 directory, as both themes use common files in this directory to save space.

DESIGN NOTES

Images for this theme were taken from the following sources:
Startup Logo Rossetti: Beata Beatrix, 1863
Background Redon: Ophelia, 1900-1905
Wait Logo Rossetti: Venus Verticordia, 1864-1868,
Shutdown Logo von Stuck: Sin, 1893
Sounds for this theme were taken from... Ennio Morracone's "Main Titles" and Azure's "Vicious Age Lasting". OK, so not all the sounds are terribly gothic sounding, however, they are easy to listen to in the background.
